Field notes- We went outside on October 16, 13, and October 16, 2013. The first time we went outside, I wasn't very successful. I didn't know what plant to do. On October 16, 2013. We went outside again to try to identify some plants. I think I have found a young Pin Cherry tree. It was around 63 degrees F, and it was a cold, cloudy, fall day. It was pretty dry out. The wind was blowing not really that strong. I didn't feel how moist the soil was, it probably was pretty dry because it didn't rain over the weekend. The time of the day we went out today was around 1:30. We are trying to identify plants so we can know what trees are which and further learn with it.
The sampling method I used was just looking around. When I saw this tree, it really interested me because I thought the leaflets were cool on them. They were also really pretty with the fall colors. Our class stood at the end of the pavement to see all the trees. Once I found the tree I wanted, I took some pictures of it and measured the leaves. Beforehand, I took pictures off of a book of trees. Then when we went outside, I compared them.
I saw a lot of dead, colorful leaves on the ground. The air smelt like autumn. I heard kids laughing and yelling. I also heard the sound of the strong wind. I noticed that there were one or two of the Pin Cherry plant in the area. The latitude was 43.581876 north, and -70.702084 west.
The tree was slender, and it was a brownish orange. There were 11 1/2 inch leaves with 3 1/2 inch leaflets. The branches are skinny with brown/ black buds at the end. The margins on the leaflets are small toothed. I noticed that the leaflets had small holes in them. That is all the data/ evidence I collected. Thanks for reading!
