A high moment for me in each and every teacher workshop I participate in at GMRI is getting to know the teachers who use (or will use) GMRI's programs on a deeper level. You are each amazing educators, motivated learners, and inspiring mentors to us and to your students. I'm so excited hear about the work that you will do this school year!
My high moment was working with the WeFind team, my teammates were very helpful and knowledgeable. It was great learning how to post to vital signs.
I am excited about aligning the curriculum so that 5th grade students are ready for middle school science. I am most excited to use VitalVentures and Vital Signs as a way to collaborate with the middle school team to give students an opportunity to challenge themselves as they use the technology that they so love as they learn something meaningful.
The field investigation was my 'high' moment - actually working in the field is alway invigorating. Today I was able to work with two new partners who added new and different insights to the experience. Everyone approaches these ideas and experiences with their own perspectives -- communicating them with each other increased my understandings of how others perceive the investigation - which helps me understand and remember that students also have many different perspectives and understandings of these experiences also.
I felt like I was increased and enriched my teaching today -- always a great feeling after a full day of work!
Yesterday my head was above water (so to speak) and we went over content I was mostly familiar with. Today, however, has been a much sharper learning curve, to say the least. I'm a little overwhelmed at the moment. This sounds fun and something my kids would like but how do I fit it into my curriculum which is already too full? -Barbara
My high moment from the last 2 days is being excited about planning with the other grades in my school to connect some unit of study. -Debbie (without a computer)
One was working with my WeLook team. I learned a lot from the task and the team. It was also nice to meet other teachers. Thank you, Karen and Erin.
My other high moment was talking with my school team. We are all excited to plan a school wide expedition into science. There is a lot of enthusiasm which is great because I have the starting the school year jitters already.
I am most excited about seeing the activities in action and participating in them! Being a visual/hands on learner I needed that. I feel that I have so much to bring back to my class that it is a little overwhelming. Yet I can start small and build as I learn and explore more. My highest moment so far is lobstering last night. I have always been curious about that aspect of Maine and I am all about getting my hands dirty, literally. Gayle captured a great pic of me with my crustacean friend that I am going to use in my welcome back letter. I really think it will get my students excited about being in my class, and it will serve as a reminder to me to not take myself too seriously and keep it fun!

We followed the format that was provided, took photos, stated our evidence, returned to GMRI and used a computer template for our findings. We then checked our findings and those of another team. The data was collected, graphs were created, and our research/findings are now published on the web. This was an organized, extremely well-facilitated activity, with multiple layers!
One of the best things about the Vital Signs summer program is meeting and working with fellow educators. I am going to go home with a ton of new ideas to implement into my classroom. I love that everyone contributes and shares ideas that have worked and have not. I also like that the Vital Signs Website now has the Do Projects! tab. I never thought about having my students create tutorials or even new species cards. This gives my students some great ideas to display all the information that they have learn in a fun and create way (instead of the standard keynote or poster). Thank you all!!!
I am extremely impressed with the quality of preparation, instruction and guidance provided by the GMRI staff. Each part of our day has been carefully thought out and organized. I feel that they are very respectful of us as educations and eager to give us the tools to bring "their work" into our classrooms. These two days have been terrific and I look forward with enthusiasm to Friday's work.
The high moment for me was going into the field and actually doing the activity. Then coming back and doing the team and peer quality checks. Showed me how important this quality check woud be go my students. Then to analyze the data.
The next high point was being the first person to do use both my cards in the discussion part.
I was very excited to see the field missions added to the vital signs website. I did vital signs investigations with my students last fall. Although the experience was okay, I had trouble giving the work a focus. I can see these field missions providing that focus as well as an instant audience for my students' work.

I noticed the missions yesterday and loved them at first sight. This will help me explain to my students the usefulness of the data they collect and who wants their data. I am excited to share this with them.
I'm most excited about getting some time to digest and apply this information to linking the 5th grade science curriculum with the MS science curriculum.... What parts can 5th grade do? What parts can MS help with?
It is almost impossible to choose what has been the best part of the last two days. I enjoyed everything we did yesterday and then the Lobster cruise last night (even though I didn't touch the lobsters) was great. I learned more about them then I had previously known. Then today actually getting out into the field and doing an investigation and reporting on it. I guess if I really and truly had to choose it would be today. I liked getting out there and into the so called trenches looking for different plants etc.

My highest moment would have been outside photographing evidence and our teamwork to complete the task. It was the first time this non-science teacher could feel comfortable enough to actually teach science! A real turning point and absolutely enjoyable! :)
My highest moment from the past two days was doing the field work! I loved going out and looking at the loostrife along with working with my partners. I also felt that I was actually being a scientist with the paperwork and tools given. It allowed me to see that students, when given the opportunity as we did today, will want to come to science class or another class where this is possible also.
